Throwing Shapes

This short documentary style film depicts the stories of 7 young Cork artists as they find creative ways to express themselves through Hip Hop.

These young people from the Kabin Studio and have spent many years creating this original material for the purpose of performance. The project has evolved from an experiment in creative writing into a play and now it has become a film. Navigating self expression, dealing with loss, having the craic, making beats and throwing shapes. The film is a musical reflection on what it's like to be young in Cork City.

Directed by Rosie Barrett and filmed by Albert Hooi (recent work includes Gemma Dunleavy’s Up The Flats and Jape’s Sentinel project) and co-ordinated by GMCBeats, this piece explores Cork through a lens coloured by the experience of the year we’ve just had and the creativity that sparks in challenging circumstances.
